"I often get the sense that there's an unspoken rule wherein I'm required to keep a certain distance from you." His words hit that tone that Starscream seems to so commonly favor, that which always seems like it's short of actual deliberate mockery but somehow hints that he's harboring some sort of disdain or resentment underneath his uninterested words.
